Might I have a hiatus henia?

yesterday I walked to work and about mid point through my walk I noticed my upper abdomen was sore. I chalked it up to muscles (I have been doing abdominal exercises). But when I felt my abdomen, I noticed a small "knot" above my belly button.

At work I felt really lousy, and eventually needed to go home. I was in a lot of abdominal pain. I vomited and felt a little better, but the pain was still there.

Then I finally went to sleep, woke up this morning and I feel fine, 100% better, almost like it didn’t happen, except my throat is sore from the vomiting.

The small knot is still there, but not as pronounced.

A few things:
I exercise regularly, including crunches
Part of my job involves some moderately heavy lifting (30-40 pounds)
A couple of years ago, I donated a kidney, and it was done laproscopically, and they took it out through a small incision below my belly button. They told me after the surgery not to lift anything heavier than a sunday paper for six weeks, or I might get a hernia, and I complied.

So I am wondering if these factors would lead to a hernia, or did I just have a really bad case of food poisoning?

PS I will be going to the doctor sometime this week, but I feel fine now, so somehow it doesn’t seem as urgent.

Regardless of how you feel, go to the doctor. Hernia can become strangulated and cause a need for emergency surgery. Not trying to scare you but don’t ignore it. BTW it is hiatal hernia.

where is the pain with ovarian cancer?

My lower abdomin feels kind of crampy and my lower back hurts really bad. Has anyone had this or can tell me about it?

Ovarian cancer does not have any symptoms in its early stages. As the ovaries lies lie deep within the pelvis, so the major symptom is pelvic pain. Other symptoms include bleeding between periods and also after menopause, feeling of pressure in the pelvis etc. Another symptom of any type of cancer include weight loss.
As you experience severe pain in lower back or biologically lower pelvic area there may be chances of cancer.

Abnormal Pain from Stopping Smoking Has Anyone Else Suffered Bad Pain From Stopping?

I have decided to stop smoking. I went all day yesterday with 0 cigs and that is from a 2 pack a day habit. In the afternoon i started having very bad abdominal pain and cramping. I have chest, shoulder and arm pain also it is like they are all cramping and hurting. I know the headache and dizziness are normal. I also can not keep any food down. Today i have smoked 6 cigs and it relieves the pain some but not for long. From what i have read this is in the line of withdrawal from major drugs not nicotine. The pain in the chest goes all the way through to my back with pain in my neck, shoulders and arms. The stomach pain is pain in upper GI area and cramps in lower GI area.

Has anyone had similar symptoms and if so what happened? Did you find a way to help them?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Well I quit smoking and I think what you are experiencing is early withdrawal symptoms. Don’t worry it’ll get worse before it gets better, but in the long run you’ll be better off quitting.

ive also been taking omeprazole for many years, and i get the same symptoms as you when i try to come off them.
the doctor has told me i have ulcers and any acid in my gut will make it worse.ive been told that the ulcers will heal but its best to stay on the medication in case they come back.

What can cause sporadic and excruciating upper and lower abdominal pain that causes frequent urinating in men?

My partner has been suffering from this sporadic and severely painful bouts of abdominal pain since he was young but as they were only every now and then and were unpredictable he just put up with them. But of late they have been getting worse and have been keeping him awake all night as well as rendering him basically immobile. They can be in the upper or lower abdomen and cause him to urinate more frequently. What can cause this type of pain? I have no idea what to do for him!

It is impossible to guess and too important to give the wrong information.
It could be anything from a serious kidney problem to constipation.
The frequency of micturition could indicate a bladder or kidney infection or could be caused by stress.
Please tell him he must make an appointment to see his doctor.
That is the best thing you can do other than give comfort and support during these episodes.
Notice if anything in particular precedes them, a certain food, stress for example

How to treat gastroenteritis…please I am desperate?

hi there. My father has been bedridden for 7 days now with severe hardness and bloating of his stomach area, causing immense pain. He has eaten about 4 very very small meals in all this time. The doctor visited him on friday night and said he had gastroenteritis and a hiatus hernia. He was advised to eat non sugary foods, specifically yogout and soups. However, he is now very dizzy and has a severe headache, and has been sleeping almost day for the past week. Please tell me if it is normal to last this long and what else he can do to get well again. I’ve been on websites and this has scared me even more. He’s scared he is dying and I cant bear the thought! please help. thank you.

You didn’t tell about his BMs. If he has diarroea, he needs rehydration solution. In the present condition, if he is not able to take enough fluids orally, better get him admitted for intravenous fluid therapy.
Good luck!

What is wrong with me?

starting yesterday i havent been feeling all that well. i was kind of nauseous and had an upset stomach last night. i have pain in the back and right side of my neck, as well as lower back pain and pain in my right wrist and hand. i also had a weird pain in my thigh yesterday and some weird abdominal pains. today i started feeling a numbing/tingling sensation in my back. ive also had a constant headache and have been feeling really warm. my period is also 6 days late. what in the world could be wrong with me please help???

Have you considered taking a pregnancy test? Could be a possibility if you’re sexually active. If not, you might have a pinched nerve in your back. I get them somewhat often, and usually can pop my own back with a slow twisting motion pushing on the back of my hip for leverage. I also have to pop my neck fairly often, and that will usually relieve the numb/tingly feelings. If you’re uncomfortable popping your own back/neck and don’t trust a friend to do it, chiropractors generally know what they’re doing. I also have a friend that will go to the park and use the monkey bars to hang upside down and she says that it relieves the tension and stress in her spine. I haven’t tried it but it seems to work for her.
