lower left abdominal, back , and hip pain?

For 4 months now, I have had lower left abdominal pain, seems to originate from the lower back though, sharp stinging type pain in the left hip, that radiates into my groin and leg. Everything is on the left side. I’m 37 years old, and usually very healthy. I pretty much woke up from a nap one day and felt a horrible pain in my left groin testicle area, it has now migrated to the spots I have mentioned. I’m a bit of a hypocondriac, and immediately start searching the web for lower left abdominal pain causes and find colon cancer and things of that nature. I have no sign of colon cancer in my family. I have had a ct scan of my abdomin and pelvis, and have even done a home fecal occult blood test. All tests were negetive. I’m lost and just want to feel like I felt 4 months ago. I’ve heard lower back strain, hip inflammation, sciatic nerve. Does anyone have these type of symptoms, and can help me figure this out?

There are numerous reasons, as you have said cancer is a remote possibility, you could have a hernia, you could have adhesions in your pertioneal cavity which is unlikely unless you have had previous surgery, you could have a nerve impingement or as the other poster said a kidney stone or a UTI is also possible.

The number of things it could be are just too numerous. You should follow up with your GP. He/she would need to do an actual physical assessment and possibly some diagnostic tests.

Complications in early pregnancy?

I am about 4 wks pregnant now and I am horribly sick. I have been having all day sickness thats pretty severe for the last week every day. for about 4 wks i have been having severe cramping and lower back pain.i thought as first it was pms and then i found out i was with child. i went to the ob and found out on top of my incompetent cervic i also have a uterus that is not only tilted but enlarged- my dr suspects fibroids. then i was supposed to have a leep done in january but now i cant. i have also been having some blood? spotting. its brownish not heavy, but its there. i had 2 high risk pregs before but nothing this complicated. can anyone share their experience? my dr has proposed endng the pregnancy because i have so many issues right now id just like to know if anyone else has had a similar situation.
its not that i am not educated- ive done this twice before with 2 very high risk pregnancies. i am aware of the general and somewhat ‘normal’ possible complications that can occur. please read the question before you answer.

I only had the incompetent cervix, for both pregnancies. Not the other that you have but If I were you, I’d be resting as much as possible and talking to your doctor to get as much info as you can. The second pregnancy I had resulted in misscarriage @ 20 wks. I went in for surgery at 12 wks for my third pregnancy to get my suture and bedrest from 20 wks onwards to deliver at 35 wks.

If you have too many problems that are going to affect your health and wellbeing, thats’ something you need to talk to your doctor about. After my third pregnancy, my cervix was shot and I was in jeopardy having more kids and could possibly die (i was close to it delivering my last child) so I can’t have anymore b/c I thought, what’s the point in that one more child if I’m dying and leaving my other kids without a parent. Not sure if you have kids, but you do have to put your own health and safety first and foremost.

Ovarian Cancer?

I think my mom has ovarian cancer. She has had back pain for about 1.5 years now, and doesn’t eat much. She is 5′2", and about 95 pounds. She can’t put weight on easily, and a recent pelvis MRI showed something in her ovary. I’m scared.

The ovaries tend to produce cysts. And 99% of the time, those cysts are not cancerous. So it’s likely this is just a harmless cyst, not cancerous at all. There are also a large number of reasons why she could have back pain that have nothing to do with ovarian cancer. The inability to put weight on is probably nothing to worry about, either.

Middle back pain when swallowing?

A couple of days ago, I woke up with this pain in the middle part of my back (around the rhomboid muscle area). Since then, I’ve experienced painful spasms there and breathing difficulties when eating. Basically, pain is so sharp it’s almost like I can’t catch my breath, but this usually only lasts about 1 second.

Should I be worried about this at all?

abc,

I’ve heard of this. You are wise to be worried, at least enough to do something about it.

This is almost certainly an issue of sleeping and sitting posture. Try these things:

1. Whenever you sit on a chair, be sure to rotate and sit on the front of your pelvis instead of the back of the pelvis. It is virtually impossible to sit up straight when sitting on the back of the pelvis.

2. Simple rigid back Pushups and Pullups can help with strengthening the correct muscles and keeping the back straight.

3. Don’t stick your neck out front. Pull your head back (don’t tilt it back) such that you have a bit of a double chin, and make a habit of keeping it there.

4. Start your nights on your back with a pillow under your bottom (to compensate for bed sag) and another very thin one under your back. None under your head. Let your feet hang out to the side.

Try these approaches and see which works best. Keep trying things to improve sleeping and sitting posture.

Good luck ditching the pain,
John

Lower back pain- HELP PLEASE!!!?

For the past few weeks (5 weeks to be precise) I have been experiencing pain on my left side and back. I went to the doctors and they gave me some pain relievers. The doctors thought it was just a muscle spasm/strain. The pain pills helped take away the pain, but the problem still persisted. I do have Ulcerative Colitis (which is inflammation of the colon), which I have been diagnosed with about 6-7 months ago, but kept it pretty much under control. So since 5 weeks ago my pain has been getting worse. I went to the doctor again 2 weeks ago and they thought if it wasn’t a muscle strain it’s something with my colon (since I do have Ulcerative Colitis) and they gave me enemas (which is like a medication you put up your rectum to help your colon), which I have been taking until Monday (since they only prescribed me to take it for the 2 weeks). The enemas have only worked for a week. I went to the doctors again yesterday and they ran some tests like blood work and a cat scan of my lower stomach/back. I would really like to know what’s wrong with me, since I don’t get my test results back for another week. I am 64 if that’s help, since I am old.
I was also diagnosed with Colon Cancer in my early 30s.

Hi Steff, if they are giving you the Fleet type enemas, than here is your problem. Try taking a warm water enema instead. I’ve had the same problem myself.

ok question about cancer of the uterus here. A bulky uterus, can this be s sign of uterine cancer?

there is no pregnancy or fibroid. There is high epithelil cells in the urine all the time that shows up.I am a female of almost 39 and harly get periods anymore as they are so irregular. I have been known in the past to get spotting inbetween my periods., and have a lower back pain that is not going away.my stomach now looks like I am a bit pregnant. My bulky uterus which means bigger than normal showed up on the CT IPV scan 2 weeks ago. My last period was december last year. so besides pregnancy, fibroids and endromesis(how ever you spell it) which none I have nor do I have any infections. I have an offensive odour most of the time . so besides the above can a buly uterus an abnormal size one can that be cancerous. I go back to the hospital again soon. Please help.

I’m just a second year nursing student…and your signs and symptoms sound more like post-pregnancy to me. Usually a preterm labor, a very large baby, a very small pelvic size or a precipitare labor that resulted to a tear in your uterine muscles could cause it’s predisposition to an uncontracted state, in which bleeding could possibly occur, resulting to a bulky uterus. In short, once in an uncontracted state, your uterus becomes bulky and is at risk for bleeding. Maybe the foul smelling discharge is a result of bleeding. Have you ever been pregnant?Or ever had an abortion(No offense) Because if you were ever pregnant, it could be very possible that your hormones of pregnancy stayed at pregnant levels even if you werent preggy anymore. Either way, you should seek an obstetrician’s help. God bless you.

Awful Cramps?

I have been having menstural like cramps and back pain for the better part of five weeks. It happens whether or not I’m seeing my period… although it gets a lot worse when I do see my period.
Sometimes the pain radiates down my leg and I feel the most awful pressure in my pelvis. Almost as if it is full.
And I need to go like 20 times per day. Urinating will usually relieve the pain for all of two minutes.
It is not like a doubling over, let me die kind of put rather this dull, uncomfortable persistent aching.

On meds for a UTI…first bout finished around the 19th of June… symptom free for at least a week or so then they returned. Second bout started on the 1 of July, with no obvious relief. If anything more increased urination and more constant pain.

So I’m thinking it is something else.

I have all the risk factors pointing towards Uterine Fibroids but my periods are very regular and reasonably light.

I’m worried it might be endometriosis or cancer or something
i do have a doctors appointment slated for when my antibiotics are finished on tuesday. so friday i’m set to go.
but i’m still worried about it. and trust me calling your surgery every five minutes with questions is not a good idea lol.
