Would Cypro (cyproheptadine) cure the STD Chlamydia?
A little more than a week ago I thought I had a kidney infection due to symptoms I was experiencing. Tried to make an appt. with my Dr., but they couldn’t get me in. Instead they called in a script of cyproheptadine (Cypro, Z-Pack, etc.) which I finished up two days ago.
I thought the Cypro cleared everything up, but now my symptoms have returned + a yeast infection from the antibiotics. I am treating the yeast infection with OTC Monistat.
I finally saw my Dr. this morning and they did a basic urine test. He said the results didn’t really point to a kidney infection (UTI, bladder, etc.) because there was only a few white blood cells present (which he said may just be due to the yeast infection). He then ordered a pelvic exam and blood work, which I am doing on Friday.
My question/fear is this could this be the STD Chlamydia (I last had unprotected sex 44 days ago)??
Also, if it is Chlamydia, would their have been evidence of it in urine test and he didn’t tell me?
Lastly, if it is, wouldn’t the Cypro have cleared it up?
I know that no one can tell me for sure until the pelvic exam is done, but I just need to know if I should even be worried about it being STD related…. Dr. also mentioned possibility of it being an allergic reaction to the Chantix I’m taking and advised me to stop taking it for now. My symptoms & current meds are below.
Thank you and any advice is appreciated!
Medications:
Chantix (1 mg, 2x/day)
Cymbalta (60 mg, 1x/day)
Vyvanse (20 mg, 1x/day)
Symptoms:
Abdominal pressure (constant)
Lower back pain (constant)
Pain in my left ovary (off & on)
Neck/shoulder pain (off & on)
Occassional hives/itchy-ness on my face(!?)
Vaginal discharge (clear color - off & on before the Cypro, white & constant after the Cypro)
Also had some pink tint to my urine for awhile before the Cypro, now it’s gone.
I have NOT had much buring when urinating or frequency urges.

Cyproheptadine hydrochloride, - trade name Periactin, - is an antihistaminic/anticholinergic and antiserotonergic agent. It acts as a 5-HT2 receptor antagonist and also blocks calcium channels. Cyproheptadine is called a sedating antihistamine because it enters the brain in significant quantities and causes drowsiness. To the best of my knowledge, it has no use in the treatment of STDs. Varenicline, trade name Chantix in the USA and Champix in Europe and other countries, marketed by Pfizer, usually in the form of varenicline tartrate, is a prescription medication used to treat smoking addiction. Reports show that it may be linked to suicidal tendencies and depression. Vyvanse is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There are no known drug interactions between Cyproheptadine and Chantix and Vyvanse, which does not mean that there is not a possibility of a reaction. The testing for Chlamydia trachomatis is specific to an STD clinic. Routine urine testing does not include isolating STD infections. So your urine would not very likely have been tested for an STD. Some symptoms of Chlamydia include - increased or unusual discharge from the vagina, bleeding from the vagina after sex or between periods, periods which last for longer or are heavier than usual, pain in the lower abdomen, pain when passing urine. To isolate the Chlamydia trachomatis bacterium either a swab from the specific area of sexual contact – in a female, the mouth, anus or vagina - or a urine sample would be taken. To exclude this STD you should be tested. You mentioned pain IN your left ovary, as opposed to pain around or over it. There are some various causes of the symptoms that you describe, and in general, one or more of the following symptoms could be related to ovarian cysts - Menstrual irregularities. Pelvic pain – a dull ache, either constant or intermittent, possibly radiating to the low back or thighs. Pelvic pain during intercourse. Pelvic pain just before your period begins or just after it ends. A fullness or heaviness in your abdomen. Feeling of pressure on your bladder or rectum. Nausea or breast tenderness similar to when you’re pregnant. You also mentioned a vaginal discharge that was now white and constant after the end of the cypro treatment. A continuous, creamy or clear-like-eggwhite vaginal discharge that persists unchanged for a month or more, is also another symptom that may be related to an ovarian cyst. Following your pelvic exam and blood work, you should discover if there are any abnormal results and your doctor will inform you when the results are sent in.
